This Pristine Lexus LFA Has Only Ever Been Driven 177 Miles

A well-maintained 2012 Lexus LFA has hit the used car market and will almost certainly well for well over its original MSRP.

It has been a decade since the LFA launched with a $375,000 price tag and this particular example has been driven just 177 miles (284 km). It is number 376 of just 500 units built and is painted in the Lexus shade of ‘Whitest White’. The Collecting Cars listing notes that there is no bodywork or paint damage. Completing the striking exterior look are the original silver wheels and red brake calipers.

Found within the car is gorgeous red leather across the seats while the transmission tunnel, dashboard, and door panels are clad in black leather with red contrast stitching. The original plastic protective wrapping remains over the seats, sun visors, and center console buttons, indicating that the original owner never intended on driving the car frequently.

Elsewhere, the rare Lexus has a headliner trimmed in Alcantara and includes an infotainment system with satellite navigation, a reversing camera, heated seats, and heated wing mirrors.

While the LFA has rarely been driven since it was first delivered, Collecting Cars notes that it has been routinely serviced and in August 2020 with just 160 miles (257 km) on the clock, the engine oil and filter were changed.

Powering the Lexus LFA is a screaming 4.8-liter naturally-aspirated V10 engine that churns out 560 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. This engine alone is arguably worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and with four days left in the auction, bidding had already hit $350,000 for the car.

The New Bentley Continental GT Speed Will Happily Drift On Demand

Bentley has invited UK media for a first go in their new Continental GT Speed at Silverstone, releasing at the same time all the technical details of the “most dynamic road-going Bentley ever made” and a new image gallery.

In addition to packing more firepower, the new Continental GT Speed is the first to feature a rear-steering system, as well as the first Bentley with a rear electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

The result, according to Bentley, is not only a more agile super GT but one that can actually drift itself out of a corner. The newly calibrated Sport drive mode limits the available to the front axle to 28 percent and almost shuts off the counter-oversteer torque applied in the Comfort and Bentley drive modes.

In addition, the new Continental GT Speed can be optioned with the largest car brakes in the world, featuring 440 mm carbon discs at the front with giant 10-piston calipers. Bentley says that their latest-generation carbon brakes save 77 lbs (35 kg) of unsprung mass and are exceptionally fade resistant.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find Bentley’s familiar twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, which has been upgraded to 650 HP (659 PS), up from the regular model’s 626 HP (635 PS). Torque remains the same, rated at a colossal 664 lb-ft (900 Nm). Moreover, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission can change gears in half the time of the standard Conti GT when in Sport mode.

As a result, the new Continental GT Speed can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds) and reach a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h).

For Around $20,000, This Hot Pink Ford Explorer Interceptor Wants To Protect And Serve You

A hot pink Ford Explorer fit for a Paris Hilton wannabee will be offered up for sale from Mecum Auctions later this week.

To say this Explorer is ‘unique’ would be an understatement. Most notable is the hot pink finish that has been painted on, meaning that this isn’t an aftermarket wrap that the new owner could easily remove. We have no idea what could motivate someone to take a perfectly fine Explorer and paint it in this way but if the owner wanted to attract attention, they’ve certainly achieved that.

Watch Also: Ford Explorer Driver Totals Toyota Prius While Making A U-Turn

The paint isn’t the only unique thing about this Explorer. As you’ll notice, the front end is rocking a large push bar just like an official Explorer police vehicle. The SUV also rocks a spotlight on the A-pillar and even has a Police Interceptor badge on the tailgate. If this is indeed a former police vehicle, we can only imagine what the officers that once drove the Explorer would think of it in its current state. The aftermarket 20-inch wheels only add insult to injury.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they do, as the interior has also been overhauled. In fact, hot pink leather has been applied across the seats and door panels while pink carpets make the cabin all the more eye-catching. The seats also include areas of white leather and hot pink piping.

Mecum Auctions expects this ‘special’ Ford Explorer to sell for between $15,000 and $20,000.

Want This 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG? Well, You’ll First Have To Get The OK From NHTSA

Interested in acquiring this Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG? Good – but you’ll first have to get the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s blessing.

The reason is that the rare car was imported to the United States from Germany and federalized by Wallace Environmental Testing Laboratories of Houston for ‘show or display’. Therefore, any transfer of ownership must first be approved by the NHTSA. Moreover, the annual mileage will have to be kept at under 2,500 miles (4,023 km) and the new owner will also have to make it available for inspection by the safety agency until it turns 25 years old.

Read More: More Than 50 Years Of Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupes And Cabriolets; Which One’s Your Favorite?

A German Touring Car Championship homologation special, the CLK DTM AMG was built in 180 examples, 100 coupes and 80 cabriolets. This one came to life in 2005 and has less than 1,600 miles (2,575 km) on the odometer, with 100 of them covered over the past six years. It sports a silver paint finish and black leather & Alcantara interior, and has a plaque that denotes its arrival in the Lone Star State in 2009. It is estimated that only five such rides are currently in North America.

Powering it is a 574 HP 5.4-liter supercharged V8 that’s hooked up to a 5G-Tronic automatic transmission. Top speed stands at over 200 mph (320 km/h) and it will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just four seconds.

Accompanied by the original manuals, first aid kit, tool kit and battery tender, this CLK DTM AMG will go on sale at the RMSothebys Amelia Island auction on May 22.

America’s All-New Western Star 49X Vocational Truck Is Here To Get Any Job Done

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has unveiled the all-new Western Star 49X truck in the United States.

Designed for the so-called heavy-duty vocational segment, which designates special vehicles and construction site vehicles, the 49X retains the outgoing 4900’s striking front-end design and characteristic chrome look.

Underneath the skin, though, the Western Star 49X is very different as it has been designed from the ground up to be tougher, safer and lighter. During development, Daimler Trucks also incorporated feedback from leading truck equipment manufacturers to ensure the 49X would meet their needs for a quicker, more efficient conversion.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Western Star 49X is said to offer weight savings of more than 350 lbs (150 kg), starting with the all-new vocational frame promising best-in-class RBM (Resisting Bending Moment) strength rating for greater durability. The new 49X vocational truck also features a tougher cab made of steel-reinforced aluminum that’s 8 percent lighter than on the 4900, enabling more payload.

Under the signature long hood, the Western Star 49X gains the all-new 14.8-liter DD15 Gen 5 heavy-duty engine from Detroit Diesel which offers enhanced performance, uptime and reliability. The six-cylinder diesel delivers up to 505 HP and a monumental 1,850 lb-ft (2,505 Nm) of torque. Apart from the DD16, customers can also opt for Cummins’ X12 and X15 engines.

All units are mated to the all-new DT12-V or DT12-VX automated manual transmissions (AMT) with 12 forward and four reverse speeds. The truck also introduces Detroit Assurance safety equipment such as active brake assist, side guard assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

Western Star says the 49X is its toughest truck yet, having been the most tested model in the company’s history. Daimler Trucks North America spent six years designing and validating the truck and employed testing and validation methodology never used before.

For example, DTNA’s Product Validation Engineering (PVE) team crushed the cab with 20 metric tons, performed 10,000 frame twists to replicate the lifetime of the truck, and spent over 400 hours of testing on full-vehicle and component shakers – the testing equivalent of over 800,000 miles (1,287,475 km) of use.

The all-new Western Star 49X is available for order this winter and deliveries will commence in early 2021.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class History From 1926 To 2020: The Tale Of The Essential Executive Car

Although the E-Class moniker first appeared in 1993 for the W124 generation, Mercedes-Benz‘s executive car actually can trace its roots all the way back to 1926.

It was then when the newly formed Mercedes-Benz brand launched the type 8/38 PS (W02), which was named the Stuttgart 200 two years later. The range included the 200 (W21), 230 (W143) and 260 D (W138), launched in 1933, 1936 and 1936 respectively, with the latter being the world’s first passenger car powered by a diesel engine.

1946-1955: 170 V to 170 DS

After the end of World War II, the company resumed passenger car production in 1946 with the 170 V. The model was actually produced in 1936, but it was upgraded for use by the rescue services, police and tradespeople. One year later, the corresponding saloon was launched as the brand’s first post-war car, with a 38 HP engine, which was upgraded to 44 HP from 1950.

Further development led to the expansion of the series. The 170 D diesel came out in 1949, initially with 38 HP and from 1950 with 40 HP. The 170 S Saloon, with a steel body and a 52 HP engine, which was also available as the Cabriolet A and Cabriolet B, joined the range and acted as the top-of-the-line model, until the six-cylinder 220 and 300 were introduced. The 40 HP 170 DS diesel was launched in 1952, and was followed the next year by the 170 S-V and 170 S-D, which remained in production until 1955.

1952-1962: Mercedes-Benz Ponton And The ‘Erlkonig’ Story

In 1952, German magazine ‘Das Auto, Motor und Sport’ published a picture of a 180 prototype, accompanied by a parody of Goethe’s ‘Erlkonig’ ballad, and since then, the word has become synonymous to scoop in German.

The spied four-door signaled the beginning of a new era, as the “pontoon-style” sedan came out in 1953 with a three-box design, improved aerodynamics and a 1.9-liter engine making 52 HP at first and 65 and 68 HP later on. The six-pot models were launched in 1954, alongside the 180 D diesel variant, offered with 40 HP initially, and then 43 and 48 HP from 1955 and 1961 respectively. The 190 rolled off the assembly line in 1956 with 75 HP, and three years later, it was upgraded to 80 HP, while the 50 HP 190 D was introduced in 1958.

In total, around 443,000 customers worldwide chose a four-pot Ponton attracted by the new design, competitive engines, the single-joint swing axle with low pivot point at the rear that was introduced in 1955, and passive safety with enhanced interior from 1959.

1961-1968: The Mercedes-Benz ‘Tail Fin’ With Passive Safety And Modern Comfort Features

The W110 generation debuted in 1961 with a new nickname, the ‘Tail Fin’, due to the distinctive design of the rear wings. It also came with increased passive safety features, like the incorporated passenger cell and crumple zones at both ends. Upgraded brakes with front discs were introduced in 1963, and from 1967, it also gained an impact-absorbing telescopic steering.

The family comprised of the 190 and 190 D, followed by the 200 and 200 D from 1965, and the six-pot 230, with 105 HP, which was upgraded to 120 HP in 1966. Long wheelbase versions of the 200 D and 230 were available, and independent companies produced other derivatives, including estates and ambulances. Options such as power steering, sunroof, heated rear window, air conditioning, electric windows and automatic transmission were introduced for this model.

1968-1976: Mercedes-Benz Stroke/8

With new design, a coupe derivative and a long wheelbase limo, with seven or eight seats, the W114/W115 was nicknamed the ‘Stroke/8’, based on the suffix referred to the year of launch (1968). This was Merc’s first model to sell in more than 1 million units, and by 1976, over 1.8 million saloons and 67,000 coupes were built.

The W114 designation was used for the six-cylinder engines, and the W115 one for the four- and five-pots. As for the models that stood out, these were the 250 CE, with 150 HP and Bosch fuel injection, and the 280 and 280 E, with 160 and 185 HP engines.

The Stroke/8 was offered with a more advanced suspension, with anti-roll bar as standard, a five-speed manual transmission, central locking and light alloy wheels. In 1973, the lineup was facelifted with updated looks, four-spoke safety steering wheel and standard head restraints and inertia-reel seatbelts at the front. Moreover, the world’s first passenger car powered by a five-cylinder diesel engine, the 80 HP 240 D 3.0, was launched in 1974.

1976-1986: First Official Estate And Even More Gear

In 1976, the lineup was improved once again with the introduction 123 model series. Around 2.7 million units were built until 1986, which had made it the most popular E-Class until then. Some customers had to wait up to a year to take delivery, which kept resale prices high.

Fueled by the Belgian company IMA’s ambition to launch an estate of the E-Class in 1966, which was sold in the Mercedes-Benz dealer network in Germany, the 123 series was the first to offer such a body style straight from the factory. It joined the coupe, seven- or eight-seater long wheelbase limo and saloon.

The engine lineup was also extensive, with outputs ranging between 55 and 177 HP, and it included the 125 HP 300 TD turbodiesel with an exhaust-gas turbocharger. Double wishbone front suspension, safety steering column, impact-protected fuel tank, optional cruise control, ABS, driver airbag and power assisted steering were also available.

The 123 proved its racing credentials in the London-Sydney rally, with two 280 Es nabbing the first two places, and two others finishing in the top ten.

Mercedes also experimented with alternative fuels, such as electricity, hydrogen and LPG, in this generation of the E-Class.

1984-1997: The First Mercedes-Benz E-Class Is Officially Born

More diverse than ever, this generation was offered in four body styles, namely a sedan, estate, coupe and, for the first time in recent history, a cabriolet, plus a long wheelbase variant and other special models.

Petrol and diesel engines were available for the 124 model series, starting from 72 to 326 HP in the 500 E that debuted in 1990. The E 60 AMG was launched in 1993 and upped the ante with its 381 HP engine, while features such as the 4Matic four-wheel drive system and multi-link independent rear suspension were introduced.

Falling in line with the smaller C-Class and the bigger S-Class, the 124 was dubbed the E-Class in June 1993, when the model’s mid-life cycle facelift was launched.

By the time production ended, Mercedes had built 2,737,000 units of the 124 model series, including 2,213,000 sedans, roughly 340,000 estates, 140,000 coupes and 34,000 cabriolets.

1995-2002: The E-Class With Twin-Headlamps

Launched in 1995, the second-gen E-Class brought a double-headlamp design and three equipment grades named Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. The engine lineup included a generous host of gasoline and diesel units, with outputs between 95 and 347 HP in the E50 AMG, and an estate variant was also available.

2002-2009: Further Evolution

The W211 rolled off the assembly line with an evolutionary styling, more passive and active safety, bi-xenon headlights, automatic air-con, rain-sensing wipers and many others, as this was, after all, made in the modern era. Other highlights included the four-link front and multi-link rear independent suspension, air suspension and ESP.

At the 2006 New York Auto Show, the facelifted iteration debuted, with plenty of novelties, including the 514 HP E63 AMG.

2009-2016: More Evolution, No Revolution

The E-Class was further refined for the W212 generation, which was shown in early 2009, with a further evolution of the design language, more aerodynamic and technical improvements, as well as a selection of modern engines which were topped by the 525 HP E63.

2016-2020: The Latest E-Class That Everyone Knows

The fifth-gen E-Class was presented at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, with a Russian doll design, advanced car-to-car communication, smartphone integration, new infotainment system and a lot of safety gear. The estate was introduced half a year later, and the coupe and cabriolet followed in 2017, while the entire range was facelifted earlier this year.

First Deliveries Of VW ID.3 To Begin In September With Some Features Disabled

Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID.3 electric hatchback will go officially on sale on June 17 in most European countries, but that date is reserved for binding orders of the limited First Edition variant.

Customers who have already placed a pre-order for the VW ID.3 First Edition will be given two options to choose from on the delivery date of their new electric vehicle.  The first one is delivery in early September, which will be combined with a membership of VW’s ‘ID.3 1st Mover Club’, while the second one is having the car delivered later, in the fourth quarter of the year.

The German carmaker will open the order books for the general public a month later, in mid-July.

The first batch of ID.3 models that will be delivered in early September will not have the App Connect function and the distance feature in the head-up display activated, with VW promising to activate them with a software update at the beginning of 2021.

“As a token of thanks for their loyalty to the brand and a gesture of appreciation for their patience during the long wait until ordering kicked off, we are offering all pre-bookers wishing to take possession of their ID.3 1st in September membership of the ID.3 1st Mover Club”, said Jürgen Stackmann, VW sales boss.

In addition, customers that will take delivery of the ID.3 First Edition in early September and are leasing their cars will not only receive free membership of the 1st Mover Club but will also not pay any leasing rates for the first three months. Members of the 1st Mover Club will also receive a direct line to Volkswagen, not only for customer inquiries but also for giving their feedback on their everyday experience with the ID.3 for the carmaker to use in further development.

Pre-bookers who will choose the second option, meaning a delivery date towards the end of the year, will receive their ID.3 First Edition with all the functions and features activated from the get-go.

The special First Edition variant of the VW ID.3 is offered only with the mid-level 58 kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of 261 miles (420 km). 2021 Toyota RAV4 PHV Debuts As Japan’s RAV4 Prime

Already on sale in North America as the Toyota RAV4 Prime, the plug-in hybrid RAV4 debuts today in the automaker’s home country.

Marketed as the RAV4 PHV in Japan, it features the same powertrain as the model sold overseas. The new Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) achieves a maximum system output of 225 kW (306 HP / 302 HP) by combining a 177 PS (175 HP) 2.5-liter four-cylinder Dynamic Force gasoline engine with a 134 kW (182 PS / 180 HP) front electric motor, a 40 kW (54 PS / 53 HP) rear electric motor, and a 18.1 kWh battery.

This enables the RAV4 PHV to achieve an all-electric driving range of 95 km (59 miles) and an average fuel economy rating of 22 km/L (4.5 l/100 km / 51.7 mpg US), as per Japan’s WLTC test cycle.

See Also: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV Is Both The Most Powerful And Fuel-Efficient RAV4 Ever

The powerful hybrid system also enables a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration of 6.0 seconds. The E-Four electric 4WD system plays an important role in that, fully distributing the power produced by the plug-in hybrid system between all four wheels.

In Japan, the new RAV4 PHV comes with a maximum of 1,500 W (AC 100 V) external power supply function as standard. This makes it possible to fit a vehicle power connector which can be plugged into the regular charging inlet for use as an external power socket. The supplied power cable (both AC 100 and 200 V) can be connected to an electrical socket for recharging, which takes approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes via AC 200 V/16 A or 27 hours via 100 V/6 A.

Compared to the regular RAV4 sold in Japan, the PHV model can be recognized thanks to a model-specific front grille and bumper, as well as special LED DRLs and newly-designed 19-inch RAV4 aluminum wheels. Customers can choose between six colors, including the RAV4 PHV-exclusive Emotional Red II. In addition, a total of five two-tone combinations are available.

Inside, the RAV4 PHV features an all-black treatment with red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shift lever, instrument panel, door panels, and center console. Synthetic leather sports seats are standard for all models, as are a 9-inch Display Audio infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

From a safety standpoint, the plug-in hybrid SUV comes with the Toyota Safety Sense suite as standard. Highlights include a pre-collision safety system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes, 360-degree camera system, and Head Up Display.

Toyota prices the RAV4 PHV from 4,690,000 yen ($42,820) in Japan.
