Custom GMC Yukon XL Convertible Could Double As A Safari Vehicle

From time to time we see plenty of cars being chopped off but there is always something new that triggers our curiosity. The pictured GMC Yukon XL is such an example, thanks to the custom tubular frame and the removable soft top. This uniquely used vehicle is located in Spencer, Indiana, and it’s for sale with a $11,900 asking price.

This started life as a 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500 fitted with a 5.3-liter V8 sending power to the rear wheels (2WD) through a four-speed automatic gearbox. With 140,909 miles (226,771 km) in the odometer, it has enjoyed a long life. According to the listing, it has a clean title, it still runs and drives great, and it even comes with a new battery and a new set of all-terrain tires.

At a certain point, the owner decided to cut off the roof and the pillars, leaving only the A-pillars and the windshield. In order to maintain an acceptable level of rigidity in this extremely long truck-based body-on-frame SUV, they added a tubular frame above the cabin, which also works as a base for the soft top.

The manually operated roof is clipped on the waistline of the SUV, which means it should require quite some time to place/remove. Also, the fact that the windows have been replaced with removable transparent vinyl makes us worry about sound insulation and weatherproofing.

That being said, there are not many seven-seater vehicles that can provide such an open-air experience for all passengers, plus having enough room for their luggage. When fully opened, the Yukon Convertible with the custom frame kind of looks like a safari vehicle, as the only thing that is missing is a tent.

First discovered on Reddit, the custom vehicle is listed for sale by ttrepairables.com. Driving your kids to school in a drop-top seven-seater SUV sounds a bit tacky and the price is quite steep for an old 2WD Yukon with such mileage, but it will definitely be a head-turner.

LeBron James Shows What The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Is All About

The GMC Hummer EV is one of the most intriguing electric vehicles that’s set to soon hit the roads and brand ambassador LeBron James recently had the opportunity to check it out for himself.

The three times NBA champion took to Instagram Live to provide his millions of followers with a tour of the Hummer EV in Edition 1 guise. While the vehicle he checked out is a pre-production prototype and not ready for the road, it is an accurate representation of what the finished off-roader will be.

The basketball legend doesn’t provide us with any details about the electric pickup that we didn’t already know but for many of his followers, this is probably their first time seeing the EV and learning about it. For someone as tall as James, the ability to remove the roof panels of the new Hummer will no doubt make it that much more convenient.

It is the Hummer EV Edition 1 that will be the first variant to hit the market landing later this year from $112,595. It will also be the most powerful, outfitted with three electric motors that combine to produce a combined 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm) of torque, allowing the pickup to accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just three seconds.

These motors receive their juice from an Ultium battery pack that will provide a range exceeding 350 miles (563 km). The truck also offers support for 350 kW charging, allowing owners to add almost 100 miles (161 km) of range with just a ten minute charge.

GMC Canyon 750 HP SVE Syclone Conversion Will Cost You A New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Presented last week as a throwback to the 1991 performance truck, the modern-day Syclone, built by Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE), is one expensive package.

In fact, it is so pricey that you could buy a brand new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio that starts at $80,500 just for the cost of the upgrade, not counting the GMC Canyon donor truck.

According to the information obtained by MuscleCar&Trucks, you will have to shell out $79,995 for the conversion. On top of that, the truck, which has to be in the extended cab specification, will cost you another $30,000 or so.

Before sending the vehicle over to SVE for the modifications, you will have to pay a $10,000 non-refundable deposit, and subsequently, you will have to decide if you want the optional extras, such as the $1,295 black tonneau cover and $2,495 custom seat trim package.

Nevertheless, when you eventually take delivery of the heavily modified Canyon, you’ll get a truck that boasts 750 HP and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque thanks to a 5.3-liter supercharged V8 that’s coupled to a heavy-duty eight-speed automatic transmission.

It also features permanent all-wheel drive system, high-performance brakes, heavy duty driveshafts and AWD transfer case, stainless steel exhaust system and lowered suspension, in addition to the custom wheels and new bodywork.

Production is limited to 50 units, and 10 of them have already been spoken for, according to the quoted website, so there are 40 slots up for grabs.
